The idea
Starting from the need to have a Cyclonic sampler in our portfolio, we decided to use what guaranteed us reliability, durability and that we had tested for a long time. For this reason we decided to use part of our easySPT100, the “base”, because it is compact, efficient and also battery powered. Once we decided on the “starting point” we designed the Cyclonic reverse flow head trying to avoid all known problems. In particular, we designed a drum to hold 8 Eppendorf, used two motors (one for rotation and the other for drum lifting) and avoided sensors that suffer from dust and dirt. We have also redesigned the pump impeller to increase the suction capacity up to 25 l/m. Last but not least, an easySPT100 can be transformed into an easySPT300 by simply changing the cover allowing two different sampling methods with just one base! The result is a very compact “Cyclonic”, battery powered and easy to maintain.
The external body
The external body is composed by the “base” of easySPT100 and a new cover realized to accommodate the cyclone group. We increased the height of the cover due to the dimension of the new head compared with the original of the easy PT100. Also the nozzle position is changed. Rear panel and battery group remain the same. Starting from easySPT100 production of 2020 we will provide a kit to modify instrument from Hirst head to Cyclone head and viceversa. The external body is composed by the “base” of easySPT100 and a new cover realized to accommodate the cyclone group. The internal
All the cyclone head is fixed to the cover to allow the extraction of ther drum at the end of the sampling period. Also this solution doesn’t require any modification of the base to maintain compatibility between Hirst head and Cyclone head. The drum facilitates the installation and transport of the seven eppendorf and a custody will be provided like in easySPT100 /200. 7 days cyclone head
This part is the core of the cyclone sampler. It’s contain all necessary parts for the movement of the drum and the control of main operating parameters. Is made to be resistant to environement agents, is equipped with two IP68 microswitch to control steps and zero position and a battery allow the extraction of the drum in conditions where external power supply is absent. easySPT300 in a
nutshell
This is our new sampler based on the “cyclone” principle. It’s composed by a miniature “cyclone” head inserted in a mechanical group that allow a 7 days sampling. The system is capable of continuos sampling at 16 l/m and is highly efficient for particles as small as 1um. Due to the vortexing air inside the “cyclone-head” the particles fall inside the eppendorf of 1.5ml positioned below the head. The two little motor complete the system allowing the rotation movement, to change the eppendorf every days, and vertical movement for the sealing of the head during sampling. Following informations are the preliminary of the new sampler easySPT300.
Complete Cyclone
The mechanics of the instrument is a group of three main parts:
- The Cyclone Head.
- The motor group.
- The drum for the Eppendorf.
It’s a mixture of Plastica and aluminum with a dedicated electronics for the control of movements of the drum. It’s managed by the same electronics contained in the easySPT100 sampler. We have also provided a little backup battery to allow the extraction of the drum even if main supply are are disconnected or too low.
Cyclone Head
This part is designed to allow the creation of vortexing air necessary to capture particles up to 1um. The particular conformation and dimension of the internal hole is studied for the best performance of the head with an air suction of around 16 l/m. The inside of the head will be treated to avoid sedimentation of the dirt even if it will be necessary to clean it regularly. For this reason the head is easily removable.
7 Days drum for Eppendorf
This is a drum to support up to 7 Eppendorf of 1.5ml and our idea is that the drum may be carry to the laboratory by using a custody (like easySPT100/200). The drum is also necessary to allow the rotation of the eppendorf under the Cyclone Head. The rotation is necessary for a 7 days sampling.
